Ingredients

scaled from 4 servings
  • 3/4 lb ground turkey (93/7)
  • 1/4 cup plain breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp each kosher salt and black pepper
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 1/2 oz sharp cheddar slices
  • 2 hamburger buns
  • 1/2 cup crispy fried onions
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp barbecue sauce
  • 4 leaves, 1 tomato leaf lettuce and tomato slices

Method (tap to check — screen stays awake)

  1. Mix the turkey, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire, garlic powder, salt and pepper with a fork until just combined; the mixture should look loose, not pasty.
  2. Form four wide patties and press a deep thumbprint in the center of each so they cook flat instead of doming.
  3. Heat the oil in a heavy skillet over medium-high and cook the patties undisturbed 5 minutes, until a dark crust forms and they release from the pan on their own.
  4. Flip, top with cheddar, cover, and cook 5 to 6 minutes more until the cheese slumps and the centers read 165F.
  5. Stir the mayonnaise and barbecue sauce together and spread it on the toasted bun tops.
  6. Build each burger with lettuce, tomato, the patty, and a handful of crispy onions crushed lightly over the cheese.
