Ingredients
- 2 loaves, split lengthwise French bread
- 5 oz bulk Italian sausage
- 1 oz sliced pepperoni
- 1 1/2 cups mozzarella, shredded
- 1 cup pizza or marinara sauce
- 1, diced green bell pepper
- 1/4 cup grated parmesan
- 1/4 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp each dried oregano, garlic powder and red pepper flakes
Method (tap to check — screen stays awake)
- Heat the oven to 425F. Crumble the sausage into a skillet with the oil and brown it over medium-high for 6 minutes, adding the pepper for the last 2, then drain off the fat.
- Toast the split loaves cut-side up for 4 minutes so the bread firms up - untoasted bread turns to sponge under the sauce.
- Spread the sauce to the edges, season with oregano and garlic powder, then cover with mozzarella, the sausage and pepper, the pepperoni and the parmesan.
- Bake 10 to 12 minutes until the cheese is bubbling and the pepperoni cups have curled and crisped at the rims. Rest 3 minutes, then cut each half into portions.
