Ingredients

scaled from 4 servings
  • 3/4 lb ground turkey, 93% lean
  • 1 14 oz box penne
  • 1 24 oz jar marinara sauce
  • 1 1/4 cups sharp cheddar, shredded
  • 1 medium, diced yellow onion
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 1 tbsp total garlic powder, oregano, salt and pepper

Method (tap to check — screen stays awake)

  1. Boil the penne 3 minutes short of the box time so it is still chalky at the center, then drain.
  2. Brown the turkey with the onion in the oil over medium-high heat for 8 minutes, breaking it up, until the meat loses its pink and the pan starts to stick and brown.
  3. Stir in the marinara, milk and seasonings and simmer 5 minutes until the sauce thickens and clings to the meat.
  4. Fold in the pasta and half the cheddar, then scrape everything into a buttered 9x13 dish.
  5. Top with the rest of the cheddar and bake at 400F for 20 minutes until the edges bubble and the cheese is browned and blistered.
  6. Let it stand 5 minutes before scooping so the sauce sets instead of running.
