Ingredients
- 3/4 lb ground turkey, 93% lean
- 1 14 oz box penne
- 1 24 oz jar marinara sauce
- 1 1/4 cups sharp cheddar, shredded
- 1 medium, diced yellow onion
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1/4 cup whole milk
- 1 tbsp total garlic powder, oregano, salt and pepper
Method (tap to check — screen stays awake)
- Boil the penne 3 minutes short of the box time so it is still chalky at the center, then drain.
- Brown the turkey with the onion in the oil over medium-high heat for 8 minutes, breaking it up, until the meat loses its pink and the pan starts to stick and brown.
- Stir in the marinara, milk and seasonings and simmer 5 minutes until the sauce thickens and clings to the meat.
- Fold in the pasta and half the cheddar, then scrape everything into a buttered 9x13 dish.
- Top with the rest of the cheddar and bake at 400F for 20 minutes until the edges bubble and the cheese is browned and blistered.
- Let it stand 5 minutes before scooping so the sauce sets instead of running.
