  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 2 tbsp butter

  2. Dredge in 1.5 cups of the flour seasoned with the paprika, garlic powder, and a generous pinch each of salt and pepper, then rest 10 minutes.
  3. Fry at 325°F for 6 minutes per side until golden and the thickest piece reads 165°F on an instant-read thermometer.
  4. Whisk the remaining flour, baking powder, eggs, remaining buttermilk and melted butter into a batter.
  5. Cook in a hot waffle iron until crisp.
